ONODA Signs MOU with EPM of Medellín, Colombia, for a Feasibility Study on Smart Gas Meters
On December 11, 2025, ONODA Inc. signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Empresas Públicas de Medellín E.S.P. (EPM), a public utility company based in Medellín, Republic of Colombia, to conduct a feasibility study (FS) for the introduction of Smart Gas Meters.
EPM is one of Colombia’s leading integrated public utility companies, providing electricity, water, city gas, public transportation, and other public infrastructure services in Medellín, the country’s second-largest city. EPM currently supplies city gas to approximately 1.7 million households.
Medellín is widely recognized as a city committed to innovation. Under the MOU, ONODA and EPM have agreed to conduct a small-scale pilot test using ONODA’s proposed ultrasonic Smart Gas Meters. The pilot is expected to evaluate the benefits of the technology, including improved metering accuracy, enhanced operational efficiency through remote monitoring, and the prevention of unauthorized gas use.
Unauthorized use of gas is a serious social issue in Colombia. Enhanced monitoring through Smart Meters is expected to contribute to improving the profitability of gas utilities as well as ensuring a stable gas supply.
As part of the feasibility study, ONODA and EPM also plan to explore the potential for joint investment in a future gas meter assembly plant.
Through its collaboration with EPM, ONODA will continue to contribute to the modernization of Colombia’s gas infrastructure and the development of a sustainable business environment.
