Article Highlights

The Chunichi Shimbun article highlights ONODA’s efforts to promote prepaid gas meters for residential households in Bangladesh. The project was implemented under a JICA-supported ODA loan program, with ONODA working together with Toyokeiki Co., Ltd. to develop meters suitable for local conditions.

Since full-scale implementation began in 2017, prepaid gas meters have been installed in approximately 580,000 households. According to the article, gas consumption at households equipped with the meters has been reduced by around 40%, reflecting both increased awareness of gas conservation and improvements to household gas piping.

With approximately 4 million households in Bangladesh connected to the natural gas network, significant potential remains for further expansion. ONODA is also considering future local production in Bangladesh to respond to growing demand, including the replacement of aging gas meters.
